In general, any spring material is a suitable candidate for wire forming. The most common materials for custom wire formed products are steel, stainless steel, brass, or copper.
Some materials not used for helical coil springs, such as aluminum, are commonly used for wire forming applications.
What is the most common wire diameter used for wire forming?
In general, wire diameters used in custom wire forming parts should have a minimum diameter of 0.010” thick. Depending on the number of bends required, it may be possible to form a wire diameter up to 0.500” thick; however, most wire formed products have diameters no larger than 0.25” to optimize manufacturing.
